Netball CCA started the year by taking part in the North Zone Netball Championships. Although both ‘B’ and ‘C’ Division teams did not qualify for the second round, the girls demonstrated resilience and fought to the last minute for every game. The ‘C’ Division team in particular was just one win shy of qualifying for the second round.
Despite the early exit from the competition, 5 of our members were identified and shortlisted for the 14 & Under and 17 & Under Zonal Development Squad under the M1 Talent Identification Programme conducted by Netball Singapore. They are Jolie Tan (2E2), Chan Pei Qing (2E5), Gracia Khoo (3E2), Melannie See (4E3) and Nicole Tan (4E5). They were given a chance to be selected for the Zone Age Group Teams and eventually the National Age Group Team.
Jolie Tan (2E2) was one of the twelve students from north zone schools selected to train with the Zone Age Group Team (North Zone). She trained once per week with the team on top of school training, and represented the team to take part in the National League from May to July 2018. Jolie learnt much from the experience as she played alongside players from the Singapore Sports School and St Nicholas Girls’ School.
Our netball team subsequently took part in other competitions such as the Daisy Tan Netball Carnival, Bukit Panjang Government High School Netball Carnival, Speed Netball Carnival and the Deloitte Pesta Sukan Netball Carnival. All the members in the team were given opportunities to represent the school in different carnivals.
The team also took part in Values in Action activities such as the International Coastal Clean-up as a way to know each other better while giving back to society. In addition, the team planned and carried out the Team Bonding cum Senior Farewell Day, as well as the Netball Day Camp successfully.
The girls are determined to do better in the next North Zone Championship and will put in their best effort to prepare for the games.
